What
coverages do I need to fully cover my marina?
Every business is unique – and every marine business is even
a more unique business. It’s best to discuss your
coverages with us. However, look around the marina and look at all
the different exposures. Dream up a worst case
scenario – yes, you’ll need coverage for all of that.
Some typical coverages are: - General Liability – “trip and fall”
- Marina Operators Legal Liability
- Docks, Piers, Wharves
- Commercial Auto Coverage
- Tools/Equipment
- Business Interruption
- Protection & Indemnity
- Watercraft Coverage
- Shiprepairers Legal Liability
- Pollution Coverage
- Workers Compensation Coverage (USL&H) …and more
I believe I have all those coverages on my policy, does that mean
I’m ok?
Every policy is written differently, it’s important to make
sure you are receiving the coverage you need for your
business. Some policies exclude damage caused by flood or ice, while
others provide this coverage. Some policies
may not cover your workers while they are operating one of your
workboats. It’s important to be sure that you are
dealing with a marine industry specialist so that all these exposures
are taken into consideration.
What is USL&H coverage?
USL&H coverage is another term for Longhshore & Harbor Workers
Compensation Act. It provides coverage for
employees who are injured while working within a set of requirement
within the act (status and situs). A “typical”
workers compensation policy does not cover this exposure.
I’m told that I don’t
need USL&H coverage?
That is a common misconception in the industry. There are several
exclusions for certain types of marine businesses
that may apply to you. However, those exclusions may not apply to
your subcontractors or work that you do
occasionally. Please email or call us if you’d like more information
on this coverage. It’s important to be sure you
have all the coverage you need.
